Atlas, 275 survey sheets, 890 x 606 mm (installation: INS Office of Interpretation, Galéria Medium, Bratislava, 2006)
This works stems from Aerial Reconnaissance
Survey B (10 May 2005), carried out
as part of the International Necronautical
Society (INS) Inspectorate, Berlin.
In the course of interrogation by
INS Inspectors, Auerbach suggested,
referring to this Survey, that it
was as if the survey material compels one
to account for every grain of sand
visible in the photographs. Accordingly,
an instrument for this purpose was
devised and installed in a temporary
Office of Interpretation. Known as Atlas, this apparatus consists of
275 large sheets, organised in sequence,
each displaying an enlargement of
one photograph from the survey. The
image is equipped with a grid to
facilitate the process of counting.
The results are entered in the Tally.
The aggregate results will be transmitted
to the Inspectorate Committee for
interpretation.
