Marlene Haring writes: For the occasion of the open Studios at
ISCP the door of my studio was open. There I sat in the passage
way to my studio behind a desk to conduct business. For the opening
I sold sucking marks for $10. My work included bargaining with
potential clients. I made special offers, or also asked them to
tell me what they could offer as a trade. When a deal was made,
I offered my chair to the the client, whose neck I then cleaned
with rubbing alcohol after which i applied a sucking mark. (On
the following days I did Licking Glass — for free! — and
Secret Service.)
I got a booth at the Miami art fair and offered sucking marks
for $10. My clients were informed about my relationship with the
art dealers who were, as the contract put it, the Sucking Hosts.
The contract with the clients also included a waiver. The set-up
was described by Aias Vargas.
